Search for Applicants to Fill McKinnon Endowed Chair

The Department of Mining Engineering at the University of Utah invites applications to fill the Malcolm N. McKinnon endowed Chair in Mining Engineering.

The position will become available July 1, 2010. The Chair was endowed to supplement and promote excellence in the educational enterprise of the Department. The Department is fully accredited by ABET and offers B.S., M.S., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in mining engineering. Located in Salt Lake City in the beautiful foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, the Department is well-located with respect to diverse mining activity including surface and underground hardrock and softrock mines and quarries. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in mining engineering or closely allied field. All areas of specialization will be considered. Professional engineering registration and industry experience will be advantageous. The ability to communicate effectively in English is essential. The successful candidate is expected to teach established undergraduate courses, to develop graduate courses in his/her field of specialization, to supervise graduate students, to participate in a wide range of service activities, and to establish an externally funded program of research and scholarly work.

Applications must include a signed letter summarizing how the applicant's background meets the above expectations. The following must also be provided: a complete resume, a brief description of the specific research program the applicant wishes to pursue, the names of three references (professional colleagues or former employers), and the rank for which the applicant feels qualified.
