Experience: University of Utah, 1978-present: Professor (1978-present), Chair, Mining Engineering Dept. (1982-present), Associate Dean, College of Mines and Earth Sciences (1990-1992), Interim Director Utah MMRRI (1988-1989), Associate Chair, Mining and Fuels Engineering Dept. (1980-1982). Industry experience with Kennecott Copper Corporation (Planning Engineer/1975-1978; Project Engineer/1974-1975; Geologist/1970-1974) and American Smelting and Refining Company (Analyst/1964-1965, 1966). Registered P.E., Utah; consultant to the mining industry in mine planning, slope design and slope monitoring; explosives evaluation and structural vibrations due to blasting.
Selected Honors and Awards: Outstanding Teaching Award (CMMI 1979, CMES 2005); American Federation Distinguished Achievement Award (1987); Outstanding paper award Minerals, Metals and Materials Society for Extraction and Processing Science, Coauthor, 1994; SME Distinguished Member, 2003; RMCMI Honorary Member 2004 .
